An exciting project indeed, Peter was commissioned to produce a large oil painting portraying a drag hunt* on the Glanton Pyke country estate in Northumberland; to capture in oils the atmosphere crackling with anticipation, the horses, sleek and muscular in a restless symphony of motion, raw power and excitement, poised on the cusp of the hunt.
*A drag hunt is a form of hunting where hounds follow a scent trail, known as the "drag", rather than chasing live quarry. The scent trail is usually created by dragging a cloth soaked in a scent substance, such as aniseed or fox urine, along a predetermined route. This allows for a controlled and humane form of hunting that doesn't involve pursuing live animals.
